The Alchemist: Newcastle opening

It’s been a month since The Alchemist opened it’s doors in Newcastle Upon Tyne.

It certainly has had a lot of exposure and got people talking, and rightly so, it’s one of the most anticipated bars to open in the North East.

Newcastle Upon Tyne has always been a good place for a night out however with the recent development we are seeing the closure of clubs and more opening of bars/restaurants just like this one.

So what makes The Alchemist so different and why go?

The Alchemist describes itself as “A celebration of the unconventional, dark and controversial”, this can definitely be seen in the decoration and the cocktails.

The décor is absolutely stunning, from the amazing wall art to the copper cased theme. The attention to detail is shown through the food, drinks and even the menu’s.

Having used to work in a bar when I was young I was very keen to talk to the staff to see how much training they had had and what they knew. They saw me coming lol, the staff had the answers to everything, I tried many cocktails and they knew how to make them off the top of their head, to say I was impressed was an understatement especially when they host roughly 73 cocktails if I remember correctly. The staff were lovely, attentive and very polite and to me that is one of the most important things which will make me return.

The cocktails:

THIS is what makes The Alchemist so different to the rest of the bars. The website says that they are “masters in the dark arts of molecular mixology” and I couldn’t put it any better myself.

Every single cocktail I tried on the opening night was different to the last one! Their creations are truly wonderful and there’s something for everyone. The cocktails contain dry ice which creates the wonderful dramatic smoke effect adding a sense of caution before drinking and adds to the excitement. I felt like with each cocktail I was treat like a VIP simply by the attention to detail!

I haven’t tried the food yet however the menu promises to be creative and unique so I’m excited to try it out! Let me know what your favourite dish is! You can find The Alchemist in the New Greys quarter in Intu Eldon Square.
