The summer holidays represents the best chance for many of us to pack our bags and go travelling away from home. For some, this isn’t even up for debate, they simply need to go on holiday and travel somewhere new.
For others, they may be a little bit iffy about travelling and can’t quite decide whether or not they should go. In fact, there are lots of people that decide they want to save money and not go travelling. This may seem like a good idea, but you don’t know what you’re missing out on.
Having said that, I’ve written this article to help show the world just how amazing travelling can be, and why you should plan a trip this summer. So, sit down, grab yourself a beverage, get comfy, and have a read of the top reasons to travel:
Experience New Things
The main reason everyone should go travelling is purely to experience new things that you won’t get to experience at home. Even something as simple as flying to a different country is a new experience for some people. Or, flying to a different country in first class! Then, you have endless amounts of things you can try or do while you’re away. Each country is unique and is full of special little secrets you’ll never know about unless you get up and travel. Every new experience will stay long in your memory. Think about the joy you get whenever you try something for the first time or discover something new. You could have hundreds of these moments of joy if you travel somewhere new this summer.
It Doesn’t Have To Cost A Lot
The main reason people are put off travelling is largely because they think it’s too expensive. Not to sound too mean, but this is a pretty dumb reason to not go away! For starters, it’s not like you’re throwing your money away. You’re spending it on something that’s incredibly fun and fulfilling. A holiday is a far better way to spend your money then spending it on some new shoes or clothes. However, it’s mainly dumb because it’s not strictly true. Travelling doesn’t have to cost a lot of money if you’re smart. You don’t have to travel far and wide and spend thousands of pounds on flights or hotels. You can travel somewhere new via train and stay in cheap hotels or hostels. Even flying abroad can be cheap if you choose the right airlines and book at the right times. If you’re clever and do a lot of research before travelling, you’ll find it doesn’t have to cost a lot at all. So, you can stop worrying about spending too much, which gives you the perfect excuse to pack your bags and travel after all!
Travelling Helps You Meet New People
In my opinion, you can never know too many people. The more friends you have, the more enjoyment you get out of life. If you don’t go away this summer, then it’s unlikely you’ll meet anyone new. You’ll just spend the weeks with everyone you already know, and maybe you’ll drunkenly make friends with someone on a night out. Whereas, if you go travelling, it helps you meet new people. You have so many opportunities to meet different people and form new friendships. Especially if you decide to travel around a country while staying in hostels. This means you stay in rooms with other travellers just like you! Who knows, you could find a new best friend that stays with you for life. Plus, you could meet people who’ve come from different parts of the world, which gives you an excuse to travel more as you can go and visit them next year or later this year!
You Can Get An Awesome Tan
Listen, it’s no secret that we aren’t gifted with the greatest climate over here. Our summers include more rainfall than a lot of countries gets in winter. As a result, you may find your summer is ruined by grey clouds that just put a real bummer on the mood and keep you cooped up inside for days on end. But, there are plenty of other countries with exceptionally sunny and hot climates during the summer. So, this is a great reason to travel this summer! Go out to a nice sunny destination and spend a few weeks on the beach getting an awesome tan. Everyone knows that tanned people are the happiest people, and you’ll feel really good about yourself when you’re nice and bronze. Don’t stay in a rainy country, get out there and tan on a beach with a cocktail in one hand and an exotic ice lolly in the other.
Make The Most Of Your Time Off
For a lot of people, summer is the time of year where they get a lot of time off. I’m talking to you students more than anyone else. You get nice long summer holidays, which means you have lots of time to kill. The last thing you want is to go back to school or uni and feel like you wasted two months doing nothing. Make the most of your time off and go on holiday instead. Travel somewhere nice, and you’ll have loads of cool pictures for Instagram too. It gives you something to talk about when you see your friends again, and you feel like you made the most out of your summer break instead of wasting it.
Gives You A Chance To Relax
Travelling abroad gives you a chance to do something you’ve probably not been able to do all year; relax. That’s right, you have no commitments and nothing to worry about when you’re on holiday. All you have to think about is where you’ll go for dinner and whether or not you should use the factor 15 or 30 suncream today (hint: always use the 30, you don’t want to end up looking like a lobster). Everyone approaches their travels differently, and you’re perfectly entitled to just laze about doing nothing for a few weeks. It’s much easier to relax when you’re far away from home and away from all your troubles. If you’re in a different country, then your troubles can’t exactly get on a plane and follow you, right?!
It’ll Start Getting Harder Soon
Unless you’ve spent the last two years living under a rock, then I’m sure you’re aware that Brexit happened and the UK is leaving the EU. This could have a big effect on people that like to travel around Europe during their summer holidays. Normally, things are very easy for us as we can get through border control with ease thanks to our EU passports. But, as we leave the EU, things can get stricter, making it harder for us to travel. So, 2017 could well be the last summer we have where things are really simple for us. After this year, who knows, it may be a lot harder for us to travel around Europe. Don’t let this get you too down, if anything, it’s just a great excuse to go travelling this summer and make the most of it while you can! Go on, organize a massive tour of Europe, you know you want too.
The last point there was a bit of a bummer, but I thought it should be included as it is a good reason to go travelling this year. When you read through all these reasons, you soon realise there are very few excuses to not go travelling. So, spice up your summer and travel somewhere nice and warm. #spon
