Yes, it’s getting to that time now when we have to start thinking about Christmas! But forget about what you’re going to get Uncle George for Christmas or whether the dining room will need to be updated before you host Christmas dinner – it’s your Christmas party outfit you should be thinking about!
We all want to dress to impress for our Christmas parties, but it isn’t always easy to know what to wear! Hopefully, these quick tips will help you get it right this year:
What’s the Dress Code?
As soon as possible, you should find out what your Christmas party’s dress code is going to be, or if that isn’t possible, the venue where it is being held, which should give you some clues as to what kind of things you’ll need to look for.
If your Christmas party’s dress code is formal, then you should ideally be looking to purchase a full-length dress, or at the very least, one which is a bit more modest than a mini. You will probably want to invest in a good pair of heels ( or clean up and existing pair) if you can cope with wearing them.
If the dress code is going to be smart casual, then you can get away with a shorter dress, or even without wearing a dress at all. A simple blouse paired with a pretty pleated or tight fitting lace skirt will be to die for, especially if you team it with a nice piece of custom french jewellery or a pretty silk scarf to cheer it up a bit. IOf you prefer, a nice pair of dress trousers will be fine too.
At Christmas, even if you’re usually a pretty conservative dresser, if you want to make an impression, it is the perfect time to add some sparkle to your outfits, so don’t be afraid to wear glittery shoes, gold maxi dresses or eye-catching jewellery – it’ll all add to the Christmas Spirit.
Cover it Up
Christmas time tends to be cold, in this country at least, which means you’ll want to have a cover-up, just in case things get too cold. Classy options, which will enhance, rather than detract from your outfit, include faux-fur stoles, lace shrugs and if you’re going smart/casual, even pretty vintage cardigans. Just add a sparkly brooch, and you’ll be good to go!
Don’t Let it All Hang Out
It might be a party, but you need to remember that you are representing your company and your colleagues and bosses will be around, so it is perhaps, better to dress slightly more modestly than you might on the average night out. That doesn’t mean that you can’t show any skin. But if you do, keep it classy. For example, if you show a lot of leg, keep the cleavage modest and vice versa. Also, try to choose clothes that fit you really well and are neither too tight nor too baggy, if you want to look like a Christmas Cracker.
Keep these tips in mind, while having some fun with your outfit, and you’ll be the belle of the ball this Christmas guaranteed!
