Verbena Spa Helmsley Review

Verbena Spa is a hidden gem in the most picturesque town n Helmsley In the Yorkshire Moors!

Verbena Spa

Winter is coming round fast as is Christmas and what better way to relax then a spa day. It doesn’t matter if its alone or with a loved one, a spa is great for your wellbeing and it’s important to practise self care and take some time out.

That is why this spa is great, set in the North Yorkshire Moors in the beautiful small town of Helmsley this spa is hidden away from the hustle and bustle of the city and well worth a drive out in the country for.

Helmsley is the perfect English market town and great to go for a walk around, buy an ice cream, have lunch and a light bit of shopping. It is home to the Feversham Arms Hotel and Verbena Spa, a luxury hideaway and the perfect place to relax.

I visited the Verbena Spa with my mum this Autumn and had the spa afternoon, just one of the packages they have available. It was great for mother and daughter to have but there was also people flying solo and couples there too!

The spa is small compared to a few others I have been to however a good size if its not too crowded to get away from the day to day stress of life!

Verbena Spa Food

Before we went into the spa and after our long drive we had lunch. I opted for the fish and chips and my mum had a squid salad. The food was delicious and perfectly presented from the kitchen and restaurant in the hotel The Weathervane.

They offer fresh and local produce and have the most talked about cheese board in Yorkshire. I will say that there was not much food on the plate and the prices for the dishes if we ate in the restaurant would be far to above my budget however for a occasion would be lovely to eat there again.

The reception area is small and that is where you also eat depending on the package you have. I would recommend if you go to ask to maybe sit in the restaurant as in my opinion the area is too small and feels like the reception is on top of you while you eat and I felt a little uncomfortable. The nail salon is also there too as well as a complementary drinks station.

the spa relaxation room

Once we got into our robes we made our way to the Verbena Spa relaxation lounge which I fell in love with.  The room is full of sofas with big soft cushions you can sink into and relax for hours.

The treatment rooms are here and the atmosphere is quiet and a great place to escape.

Verbena Spa Treatments

I had back massage within my package and it was fab.  The lady who did my massage was really lovely and I found it hard to not fall asleep.

My mum had her nails done and unfortunately they were not the best. We both agreed the she should have got a massage as the woman doing her nails was not a technician but rather a beautician. For the price of the treatments I would have expected a more qualified member of staff for that.

We then went into the inside of the spa which had foot spa that were lovely. I especially liked the tropical shower and aromatherapy room.

I’ve never seen an aromatherapy room so that was a bonus. The steam room was not working however we were able to go in the sauna. We then went outside which was a heaven of flowers and loungers. It was a little col but the heated outdoor pool was perfect! the cottages surrounding the pool were beautiful too! The hot tub was where we spent most of the time, it was great.

The spa was lovely and with the outdoor facilities I would love to try it again in the summer. I do think that the price of the spa is too much compared to other places spas. However I appreciate that s probably due to the surrounding area.

We absolutely loved visiting last year after a 3-night stay just an hour away. It was the perfect end to our anniversary weekend. It’s such a beautiful little place and so reasonably priced! Would definitely go again.
