How to Spend a Cracking Christmas Away from Home

To some people, Christmas is one long party, a season of drinks, family, and good times. To other people, it’s just something that has to happen each year; they don’t enjoy it, or at least don’t enjoy it as much as other people. With the news that Christmas songs may damage your mental health, there’s something to be said for packing up and taking the Christmas festivities away from the usual this December. Below, we take a look at a few ideas.

A Family Retreat

Sometimes, it’s not that we don’t want to celebrate Christmas, it’s just that there’s so much that goes into it – the presents, the tidying, the cooking, the social events – that we don’t ever really get to enjoy the season. But what if, instead of doing the same old, same old, you went away for a family retreat this Christmas? You don’t even need to leave the UK for this to happen. Book a stay at a cottage in the Lake District, for example, and you’ll be far away from the commercialisation of Christmas. You’ll be able to make your own party!

To the Snow

All those Christmas songs, cards, and films seem to have one thing in abundance: snow. The problem is, the UK rarely gets snowfall, least of all on Christmas Day! But there are places in the world where it’s guaranteed to snow. How does a snowy Christmas vacation sound? If it appeals, look to the north – maybe even to Santa’s home, Lapland – and you’ll be able to sink into all the delights of snowball fights, warm hot chocolate, and a festive period that’s as magical as can be.

A Different Kind of Christmas

It won’t shock you to learn that Christmas isn’t only a European tradition. They celebrate it all over the world, and, it has to be said, the traditions and parties of other countries can make ours look a little plain. Book cheap flights to Mexico City, and you’ll find a city that really knows how to celebrate Christmas. The festivities run from December 16 all the way through to February 2 (with various degrees of intensity, of course). Seeing how other people mark the occasion might just reignite your love for the season, too!

Goodbye to All That

There’s a chance, however, that you really don’t want a different version of Christmas, be it at home or abroad. What you really want is to escape the season altogether. Well, don’t worry, because that’s more than possible. There are beach resorts you can choose where signs of Christmas will be minimal if there are any signs at all. Pack up your summer weather and jet off to a sunny country; we’re sure you won’t miss much!

A Once in a Lifetime Trip

Finally, since it’s Christmas, why not think about treating yourself to that once in a lifetime trip you’ve always dreamed of? There’s no better time to splurge than Christmas. Just this time, you’ll be buying an experience you’ll remember forever rather than presents!
