Spanish Takeover with Tapas Revolution Newcastle

You would be forgiven if you  got lost for a minute and thought you were back in Spain at Tapas Revolution.

Tapas Revolution Newastle

Tapas Revolution is a great addition to the Grey’s Quarter of Intu Eldon Square Newcastle and is visually stunning inside. From the moment I stepped inside, the music and d├ęcor made me feel like I stepped into the back streets of pSpain and I didn’t want to leave.

Where it all started

The brains behind the brand and the chef behind the menus is world renowned Omar Allibhoy. He arrived in the UK from Spain in 2008 and has had major success with not only his restaurant chain but his 2 best selling cookbook’s available on Amazon and to buy in store too!

Being totally honest I did not know about him prior to my trip into the restaurant however when I was there I fell in love with some of the dishes and wanted to recreate them at home. The manager showed us the recipes in the book alongside a lot more simple recipes which maybe i’ll start off with haha.

Newcastle is one of 7 branches that have opened across the UK. As I mentioned above you an make Tapas at home but not the type and style of dishes you can get here in the restaurant. Authentic dishes and ingredients are hard to get hold of and what tapas Revolution is all about!

Drinks at Tapas Revolution

Aside from the array of finely selected Spanish Wains, they also, of course, have Cava! We wanted however to try the most authentic dishes as possible and they do offer a great selection of drinks I hadn’t even heard of before. We ordered the Horchata, a Valencian drink made with tigernut root! I still have no idea what that is or where you get this from but the drink was lovely, very sweet! I opted for the homemade lemonade with saffron, the Limonada Casera, and it was very fresh and I’m deffo gonna go back for drinks alone.

The Dishes: Tapas Revolution

The menu is great for everyone! I went along with my partner however there was also groups there too! he menu, Tapas style suits all. I love tapas, you can eat as little and as much as you want. It means your not stuck to one dish. Plus you can sample fore different foods.

We had a selection from the Nibbles, Meat, Seafood and Vegetables dishes however there is the set menus if you find it hard to choose dishes.

My favourite dishes or dishes lol were the Huevos Rotos and the Dry aged Jamon for 24months! Now that you truly cannot buy at home.

The food sizes are actually a lot larger than I expected which is great as you get more for your money.

They also do a great kids menu which is a great price and also includes desert.

Also, everyday from 11 till 6 they offer a fab lunchtime offer. I think for a place that is not a huge chain, they really do offer great prices.

Customer Service

We visited on a weekday so did not expect it to be busy. If it was a weekend I would happily wait a while to be served. Unfortunately, they had a staff member down and we had to wait an long time to be served. We had to go and get the waitress to serve us and to order. We did not get an apology until the manager at the end of the trip. He apologised as we had to ask for the food quicker as we had to leave….2.5 hours later.

The manager was lovely and this makes it extremely uncomfortable to talk about this. However I do have to mention this and hope that other people do not have this experience. He was sincerely apologetic to us and it did make a difference to the visit. I know it is controversial to bring this up as I was not a paying customer but I’m trying to be as honest as possible.

Take a closer look at the menu and any social occasions leading up to xmas then check out their website!

On a final note, I would say the food was great! The drinks were fab and the prices were very reasonable too. Overall I would go back and give it another go. There are few tapas restaurants in town and this one the food is fab!

We are lucky enough to have a Tapas Revolution that is close enough for us to visit when we fancy a taste of Spain. Food is always good, so tasty and really authentic. Service is always good but sometimes can be a little slow but its never been bad enough to put us off going back.
