Sunderland Restaurant Week 17th -25th March 2018

City of Culture’s finalist Sunderland, host it’s first Restaurant Week of 2018 and its bigger and better than ever!

Sunderland BID and Sorted PR teamed together once again to host a safari supper to showcase just some of the treats available during Sunderland Restaurant Week 2018 and I went along to same the goods.

This is the third Sunderland Restaurant Week and is going to be a nine day event featuring lunch and evening meal offers across the city. The restaurants as The Great Greek Mediterranean Grill notes are going to come together to celebrate the best food the city has to offer for bargain prices that are too good to resist. Why not sample the city’s best chefs’ work for less.

Sunderland Restaurant Week: Safari Supper

As part of the showcase we samples a course at each different restaurant to get a “taste” of what is to come.

El Nido

A perfect hidden “net” El Nido was a brilliant place to meet for cocktails and canapés before moving on. Its a hidden gem that you could easily miss walking along the Frederick Street but once you know, you know. Opening its doors in November 2017 the restaurant brings you traditional Mexican food and not just your typical tex mex food. Using fresh and traditional ingredients they have a new menu launch coming ready for restaurant week. we sampled the jack fruit dish and firecracker dish, both great for lovers of spice, which is not orally me, the green salsa is a must try too!

Offer: Starter, Burrito or 2 tacos for £10, add dessert or cocktail for £15.

No.2 Church Lane

Known as being the best burgers in town and a vegan haven, its safe to say this is going to be a popular one this restaurant week. With fresh buns baked every day from a local baker, this place is has the most extensive list of burgers I have ever seen. Openly I can say I am no vegan, but I’m mega impressed by the option of 8 different vegan burger to choose from! I’ve only ever seen 1 vegan burger on a menu before. The perfect place for beer and burgers it offers a great range of beers and they are constantly looking to add to their selection.

We sampled the cocktails too and they are sweet and delicious, my type of cocktail! My favourite of all has to be the halloumi fries and cheese fries, they were the best! I cannot wait to go back here and not just for Sunderland Restaurant Week.

Offer: Burger and fries for £5, 2 courses for £10 or 3 for £15

The Engine Room

What can I say apart from Simply Stunning! After an investment of £5 million pounds the old engine room as been transformed into the ideal bar and restaurant tucked in amongst the heritage centre and Dance City. They opened in November 2017 and their pub food has been a great success. We sampled their ice cream pornstar martini served as a traditional ice cream which was amazing! A perfect palette cleanser but ideal for those summer days ahead (yeah right). They have a varied menu that caters for all and a great kids menu!

the engne rooms

They have amazing lunch offers for £7 including a drink. The place is stunning and they have kept as many original features as possible, a great place to meet with friends, eat and catch up or for a pre theatre meal. We sampled the fish and chips and vegan curry. As above, I’m no vegan but I fell in LOVE with the curry. It was really amazing, not too spicy and full of chickpeas! If your looking for somewhere special to eat or for an occasion this place is a must try.

Offer: 3 course for £15

The Peacock

The Peacock Sunderland

As above the Peacock has recently been renovated and is ran by the same company as The Engine Rooms. Once a retro dance bar is now a sophisticated bar with a great fire to relax by and great food too!

This was our last stop on the safari supper and we sampled their desserts. They have cake available everyday and order it in from a fresh bakery who delivers stunning cakes! On the day to day pub grub menu they do not offer deserts but they do with their Sunday dinners. You can expect traditional deserts such as their jam poly and brownie and ice cream, perfect for the weekend.
