Crazy For You at Sunderland Empire

Crazy For You

This has definitely got to be one of the oldest musicals around! Oringally called Girl Crazy it was brought together 80 years ago by the famous George and Ira Gershwin who have made some of the best musicals around. It opened on Broadway in 1930 and was a Huge hit!

Along the years fans have longed to see it amongst theatres but it did need a modern storyline to make it relatable and was changed to Crazy For you when it hit the West End in 1992. Mind you, not much changed, it still had the same songs, energy and colourful tone to lead it to win Best musical and choreography award at The Olivier Awards.

The Show is like no other show I’ve seen at Sunderland Empire and has the very cast itself singing, dancing AND playing the orchestra! ON STAGE! I have not seen such a talented cast of a show before and everyone made it look so easy.

Cast

Keeping with the story line but not to spoil it too much in case you haven’t seen it, it’s a show about a show! And speaking of the cast it was hard to see who would get the main role as it both brilliantly played out by Both Tom Chambers and Charlotte Wakefield.

Tom chambers in Crazy For you

Tom Chambers winner of the sixth Strictly come dancing and popular TV actor is also an award winning stage actor too! Being honest I did not know has done so many shows and has been award an Olivier prize from best Actor in Top Hat. Crazy For You highlights his incredible ability to make people fall inn love with his character and make us all laugh so hard! Did I mention his dancing skills are exceptional.

Charlotte wakefield in Crazy For You

Giving him a good run for his money was Charlotte Wakelfield. With an incredible set of pipes I loved her performance of Someone to watch Over me. She’s an incredible dancer and can sing at the same time making it look effortless! she reminded me so much of the wonderful Doris Day as Calamity Jane! Such a loveable character!

Tickets

I really feel harsh not mentioning the who cast and crew in this performance. Each and every cast member took their turn of dancing and singing. Then to playing an instrument and seamlessly changed into a different role for each set. It was incredible.  they all looked like they were having so much fun too! For me it took me back to a Sunday Afternoon watching old movies with songs you’ll never forget that you can watch over and over again. such a feel good show for everyone!

There isn’t a family member I would not recommend this too!

I cant wait to return to Sunderland Empire this year they have so many wonderful shows coming up that we are so lucky to be having here in the North East!
