I may be biased as I’ve been a few times. But, The Laundrette is one of the best places to dine in Newcastle upon Tyne, yes even for a salad!
I have been going ever since it opened and have never had anything bad to say about the place. For restaurants that speak’s for itself. You can have a good or bad visit and you form your opinion on that.
I was invited along from Ellefluence to sample the new summer salad dishes and I was so excited to see what was in store.
The Laundrette exceeds its reputation for cocktails and carbs. However, this time I was looking forward to trying something a bit different. Let’s face it, we’ve had a long HOT summer. It feels like it’s never going to end ( I know I’m going to regret saying that!)
The menu has recently been updated to feature this freshly smoked salmon starter dish with celeriac slaw tomato caper dressing. I have to be honest and say I don’t like salmon but this went down a treat with the others it looks so fresh! Another starter dish was the classic bruschetta dish that is always a winner!
The ones I did try were the newly added salads under the section EASY CARE.
First up was the pan roasted cod, spiced nduja puy lentils, and vine roasted cherry tomatoes. I have never had lentils before until now and I was so shocked to see how well this dish is paired up in terms of flavors. I can’t wait to go back and have this dish!
Easy on the eye, simple yet delicious was the marinated lamb rump, blood orange rocket salad, and lemon honey dressing. The lamb is perfectly cooked and you get more than I would have expected on the dish! Perfect for lunch.
Tuna Steak, who doesn’t love a perfectly cooked tuna steak. I always get excited when I see this on the menu and it certainly lived up to its reputation. the dish was beautiful together with the seabass salad, The laundrette was done a fish salad to perfection.
Another first time for me was trying a salad with Quinoa. I know your all reading this thinking how can I review food and not have tried everything. well, no food review had tried everything and on this journey, I am tasting new things. This trip round has opened my eyes to what a salad dish should look and taste like!
The Spiced cauliflower quinoa salad with mango grapefruit pomegranate and hazelnuts is a popular vegetarian ish but I think more than just vegetarians will love this!
Naughty but nice
As a side to add to the salads the newly fried courgettes were a dish we were all fighting for. They felt so naughty to eat yet were so light and actually no worse for you! can I have them to take out, please!
If after all of that healthy eating and “watching what you eat” you can indulge in their amazing desserts. The laundrette never fails to make me stuffed to the brim leaving. I can’t ever say no to their deserts and it’s not hard to see why. trust me, the sticky toffee pudding and chocolate fondue are to DIE FOR!
If your looking for good old-fashioned carbs do not fear! They still do all of this, read my other post here!
