Sunderland Empire: Farewell Miss Siagon

I feel so sad to say the Miss Saigon is on its final tour of the UK EVER!

It’s very sad that it’s not coming back but on the plus side, we get to reflect on how much of an amazing show this has been and people can still get their hands on tickets to see it for one last time. Or for me, the first and last time!

Miss Saigon

This award-winning show started in London in 1989 and is now on at Sunderland Empire for 3 weeks only.

Sunderland Empire has really held some of the biggest shows this year and this one is no different, I#d give it a 10 out of 5!

The Show

It has a cast of 38 people and a technical team of 32 staff. They are needed for the staging, lighting and all those things we take for granted when watching the show. The stage is magnificent and comes to life with the help of 16 45 foot trailers that tour it around the UK.

The cast members stretch over 10 different nationalities and that’s what I really love about the show. It’s diverse yet everyone is brought together by LOVE, not war.

The iconic staging of the helicopter alone weighs over 3 tonnes and is the height of a double-decker bus and functions fully within the show. I really have never seen staging like it before!

The War

The story takes us across the world and has us gripped all the way through. I really loved the opening act, it made me reflect on the image of women across the world and how very little has changed. Very political I know but that’s the other side of the show aside from the love story.

The role of the men and the war is told amazingly throughout the show. Tribute is paid to the children of the wars, a touching and brilliant scene!

The shows have been seen in a whopping 32 countries and performed in 15 different languages. It really is a show that I will never forget. And one that will remain in the heart of the viewers for a very long time!

Set in the Vietnam war it may be taking us back to that time but the moral of the show is still true today. Also, something we can all relate too…LOVE. If you like a good love story you’re in for a treat. But make sure you take your tissues.

You can still buy tickets from HERE. But be quick!
