So January is nearly over! And I wanted to finish it with a final note on Veganuary. This time I’m at Pizza Express.
The MetroCentre has loads of places to eat and most of them can be found in the Yellow Mall. The restaurant itself is set over 2 floors with the upstairs having its own private dining area!
The decor throughout is modern and the customer service was excellent. That is something that really stood out for me!
Pizza Express: Vegan Menu
Firstly, I am always so surprised when a restaurant has its own vegan menu as opposed to just vegan options. It shows that they have really thought long and hard about their customers and try to meet their needs.
You can also find the vegan pizza’s in certain food shops and to me, that’s exactly what makes Pizza Express stand out. Its success has continued from the customer going to the restaurant to the customer buying their fave pizza in the store.
The menu offers a range of starters, sides, mains , deserts and drinks.
We tried the Vegan dough balls as a starter. These are perfect for all to share and comes with the most amazing dip! The Spiced Tomato Dip. We also had the Marinated Olives with Garlic and Pink Peppercorns.
When I say we had the olive’s, I meant my partner did! You either love them or hate them! He did say he liked the garlic flavouring.
When looking at the menu if I’m being honest I was disappointed at the selection. There was plenty of choice of pizza. And of course, It is a pizza restaurant after all. However there was only 1 choice of pasta and I felt there should have been more choice.
I had the Leggera Pepertonata, the one pasta choice. The Penne pasta was cooked well and I felt the portion size was great too! As well as the dish being vegan, it is also gluten-free and packed full of flavour. If you like chilli you will love the added chilli flakes but you can always ask for it without.
Then we were introduced to the menu we were explained that the Vegan Puttanesca was a favourite so we opted for that. The marinated jack fruit is in the traditional Puttanesca sauce. This again is packed full of flavour including tomatoes, garlic, chilli and herbs. This sounds crazy but on both the pizza and pasta, the tomato tasted amazing and left me wanting more. We had it on the traditional crust base but again you can also get the glutenfree if you choose.
The pizza was a great size and the
I’m going to admit this is always my best part of ANY menu. I have a sweet tooth.
We indulged and got both the carrot cake and sorbet! There are two options for sorbet. The coconut and the Raspberry and we had a scoop of each. Don’t be afraid to ask for a bit of both. OMG, they were both delicious. The coconut was creamy with coconut flakes inside and the sorbet was a punch of freshness!
The carrot cake was great too! It was soft and the creamy icing was moreish! The only downside was that I wanted more! All of them were gluten-free too!
We tried the Watermelon Chill to drink and it was so fresh! I loved it, it is perfect for summer but also if you want something that’s not fizzy but not as boring as water. It’s a juice with a blend of apple, watermelon, strawberry and fresh mint. Trust me you will love it.
