For a long time, I was misunderstood about shapewear. My thoughts had always been that they were designed to make you look thinner. However, after blogging and learning more about fashion and plus size fashion, I feel I now understand the importance of shapewear.
Most designs are made on a standard pattern. What I mean to say is that every different body has a different shape, yet designers can’t make a dress for every shape out there of the same dress.
Shapewear provides a compression allowing us to wear that dress the way it is meant to be worn or hang. I appreciate many of us will not care about that. However for me, If I have bought an occasion dress with expensive fabric then I will invest in shapewear to help that dress fit my shape.
Maidenform believes it’s what underneath that counts and it’s about confidence. It’s a brand that has been around since 1922 exactly. It’s one we can trust to provide us with high-quality fabrics.
If you shop the site you will see that that they provide not only shapewear but bras and underwear too. From classic, to modern and sexy they have something for everyone.
The site allows you to explore shapewear and choose the fit that suits you. From smooth light, to shape firm and sculpt ultra firm.
The BodyShaper- Available on Amazon RRP £44.50
This bodyshaper goes up to a 42 band and comes in C, D and DD. I got the White as when I am wearing an all-white outfit I feel it’s best to have something cover all underneath. That is in case the material is too sheer.
This is a power mesh lining and it doesn’t even feel like I had anything on. It is so light and super silky. This is the first time I have had something that fits and doesn’t buldge. One of the tips online they give is to get your size. Do not size down to avoid that buldge.
The Waist Cinching Brief- Available at JD Williams, Damart and Figleaves RRP £42
For my body shape, I like to try and smooth out my hip and tummy area so dresses fall more flattering on me. Yes, I am obsessed with dresses.
These briefs come up to a size 3XL. I am wearing 2XL which is UK size 18-20. These are firm control and come with boning in them too. It did take a while to get on due to the hook and eyes but once on they are comfortable and I love the shape they give. They also have a hook and eye panel in the gusset which makes it easier for the toilet too.
Have you tried any shapewear before? whats your fave brand?
