Kinky Boots is the musical that you didn’t know you needed to see. I have always heard amazing things regarding Kinky Boots and I was excited to see it. I had seen the film and didn’t know what to expect in terms of how they could change the film into a musical, but I felt that the music and the storyline really mixed well and that the storyline flowed well.

There are 3 things about Kinky Boots that for me make it a must-see musical.

A story of acceptance
Kinky Boots starts off being about a young guy called Charlie who inherits his father shoe factory and unfortunately for him the factory isn’t doing too well and he must think how he’s going to save the factory and the workers. Charlie meets Lola who is a drag queen after trying to save him from a fight outside the club he sings in. Charlie comes up with an idea of making shoes for men that dress in drag with the hope that it will sell to a niche market.
Throughout the musical you see Charlie struggle to get some of his team on board and accept Lola for who she is when he isn’t Simon but also his struggle to step out of his father’s spotlight. You also learn about Lola and his struggle to be accepted and for people to understand that he can be more than a Drag Queen. You see the struggle for both main characters but also see friendship build and blossom while understanding that there is more to Lola the drag queen and Charlie the shoe factory owner.

The Soundtrack will make you want to dance.
I love a musical that has a good soundtrack, but Kinky Boots is the next level for me. The music and lyrics are by Cyndi Lauper and we all love a good song by Cyndi Lauper. You get that feeling when the music starts that it was made so that you’re tapping your feet along. The songs are a total range of styles with some strong dance numbers to huge ballads. My favourites are certainly ‘Everybody Say Yeah’ and ‘Hold me in your heart’. If you can listen to this soundtrack on your commute or when you’re driving I recommend doing it.
The Angels

The whole story behind Kinky Boots is about Drag Queens and it’s the drag queens that bring this story to life. When the angels came on stage I think my jaw dropped. I have never seen such amazing legs on either men or ladies. The Angels for me took Kinky Boots to the next level with the dancing, their individual personalities and their outfits for each routine
Kinky Boots is a musical that I highly recommended and if you love watching drag queens this is a show you must tick off your bucket list.
