Redworth Hall: Overnight Spa Weekend Review

I am so lucky to live in the North East to have so many places to explore including the lovely Redworth Hall Hotel and spa.

Redworth Hall Hotel always has an amazing offer and we took advantage of the overnight spa stay with dinner and breakfast included for £119 per couple. Firstly I think that’s an amazing offer as it is per couple and some hotels charge per person. But was it worth it?

Redworth Hall Hotel

Part of the Cairn Group, the hotel is set in 26 acres of beautiful gardens and land located in Country Durham. The hotel is a Jacobean home from the 17th Century. And although parts of the hotel are more modern than others, it can still be seen from the stone works and hallways throughout the hotel. It has kept its historical features throughout including the stunning stained glass windows.

The hotel is a popular business destination with many function rooms and because of its 4-star expectation, it is also a very popular wedding spot too. The Grand Hall is very desirable and it’s not hard to see why!

Once a family home and now a luxury hotel, I love exploring places like this and imagining what it would have been live to live here all those years ago! You can also check the Salon Lofts to get a new look and feel more confident about yourself.

Due to the size and history or Redworth Hall, it has a lot to offer in terms of rooms. We stayed in the Delux Spa rooms which are located near the Retreat spa so it’s a short walk and you can go in your robes.

But they also offer more basic rooms (which are not basic at all) and family rooms too. In the more historical part of the hotel is where the suites and Delux House rooms are. This is where you be staying if this was your wedding venues or special occasions.

Our rooms had luxury robes, which I tried and tested for plus size people like me and confirm they had plenty of room. The bathroom was amazing, very big both a tropical shower AND a jacuzzi bath. All added with luxury The White Company toiletries.

The Retreat

After a £2 million refurbishment, The Retreat is the perfect place for a spa day to escape. The Outside of the spa boasts a cafe for light lunches and drinks set under blossom trees. It’s the perfect place to relax. Inside the pool area, you can find a Jacuzzi, heated pool with loungers based all around. You also have access to the outdoor patio area to sit out in the sun. They have access to the sauna and steam room too.

The Retreat has a gym for members too which was very popular. The spa area itself which includes and hair salon, treatment area and relaxation room. We went down in our robes. After a light lunch and spa, we hadn’t even noticed we had spent nearly 4 hours there!

1744 Bar & Restaurant

The Offer included a 3-course meal and breakfast too. The hotel was very quiet throughout but the restaurant was busy on the night which made me think it’s just because the place is so big.

Recently I have been diagnosed with Coeliac and I was so thrilled that the menu had lots of choices for me. The staff were very polite and efficient. For starter, I had the North Atlantic Prawns in garlic butter which are my fave dish ever! The prawns were very fresh and a great size dish.

To follow for the main I chose the braised feather blade of beef. Mainly because everyone seemed to be having this too. It looked mouth watering. The beef melted onto my form and together with the mashed potato it was difficult to finish the dish I was so full. But I had to make room for dessert.

The dessert was interesting. We had white chocolate mousse. When the dish was brought out I was surprised by its presentation as it looked more like scrambled eggs. The texture of the mousse was not what I was expecting either. It was hard and heavy and not light and fluffy but overall, the white chocolate flavour was lovely.

I would have rather got the chocolate fudge sundae but it wasn’t gluten free so I had to miss out.

The breakfast was a buffet style with lots of choices and I have to say the staff were great again. The lady who was serving our table offered to cook things separate from my diet. She gave me a choice of cereal too. She was very helpful.

Overall after breakfast, we really did not want to leave. We were so relaxed and easily could have stayed an extra night. I’m going to be looking out for more amazing deals in the future. I’ll be heading back down as from Newcastle as it’s less than 1 hour away.
