Christmas Time: Stress Less, Sleep More

Christmas time can often be the most stressful time of the year. So much to buy, so much to plan. So much to stress about. Money worries, family worries to name a few.

At Christmas, I tend to stress a lot. But not about myself, about others. I hope they like what I buy, am I organised enough, will I have enough time. Finances are also huge stress at this time of year too.

Stress can only mean one thing for me…LESS SLEEP!

I have put together my top tips to help make Christmas time a little less stressful for you and in turn, give you a good night’s sleep. After all, Christmas time is the time to relax!

Get some sleep

Tip 1: Less stress keep a pen and paper beside your bed.

Preparation is the key. If you write down all the things you are worrying about on a pad you can park them. Then go back to them in the morning and create an action plan.

Tip 2: Make time for yourself

It can be unnatural sometimes but you have to learn to put yourself first. As I mentioned at Christmas time I always tend to think of others. I try to make their day the best of the year. But you should think about what kind of day YOU want to have. Take some te out fo your day for YOU maybe. 10 minutes of watching your fave TV programme or a book even. I prefer meditation.

Stress free christmas

Tip 3: 6-8 hours of sleep means less stress

It is often the busiest time of the year. Work parties, friends parties and catching up with families. Even trying to fit last-minute shopping in after work can often mean a late night. So try and dedicate a few nights to absolutely NOTHING.

Have a bath and early night in and you will wake up feeling fresh after a good 6-8 hours sleep.

Tip 4: Lists, lists and lists

Try to stay organised with lists. I also think this way it prevents you from wasting money on things not needed. Food shopping for example. Write a list of what is needed to avoid waste. It will also help you know exactly what you are cooking on the day. It will also see if there is anything you can prepare the day before too!

    I really could use alot more sleep after the Christmas period haha as I work so much in December that I don’t get much time to rest x

    I find Christmas is a really hard time of year to get sleep as you’re stressed in the run-up, and then afterwards you’re used to late nights and lie-ins! I love the idea of writing down your worries. Sometimes having things physically written out just allows you to get them out of your head!
