Fashion Shows are BACK at Intu Metrocentre

It’s that time of year again when Intu Metrocentre show us their Spring/Summer 2018 collection in the Fashion event.

Intu Metrocentre fashion show

Every year the top retailers from around the Metrocentre put on a fashion show to showcase their “must-have” items. This time it was for the spring summer, or what we have left of it!

Fashion Shows: When and where

You can join in and see the shows from Thursday 10th of may until Sunday 13th in the Town hall section directly in front of House of Fraser.

This week I joined them for the opening blogger night to have a sneek peek on what to expect.

We were treat to canapés and a lovely drinks bar and of course the catwalk. The runway is beautifully decorated with greenery and flowers and the perfect floral seating arrangement for not just us, but the audience to and to watch the shows throughout the week.

The shows was exclusive to bloggers to sit however shoppers could get a look in too!

The shows was hosted by the brilliant Anna from BBC Radio and the models were from Tyne tee models and did an incredible jobs showing off the clothes and there are here all week!

We were shown a mixture of retailers from ladies to men’s to accessories and it was great seeing such a variety and looking at clothes you night miss if you were shopping.

I loved the bright colours that are in at the moment and the bags!!! I swear I’m turning into a bag lady.

On a separate note and what really made me want to write this post was how did the Plus Size indurty fit into this event. I was really interested to see this having been to another fashion even earlier this month which has ZERO plus size brands.

Plus Size Fashion

Intu Metrocentre have few stores that have plus size ranges but that is a true reflection of the high street at the moment. The fashion shows are showcasing all week showing different retailers but for the opening event which was trying to showcase diversity it did actually showcase one plus size brand.

Evans clothing

Evans was shown on the runway. On all of the same models, the largest being a size 12 because she had not long given birth and don’t get me wrong she looked AMAZING!

The models were fab. They really do have it tough looking so good. Especially when they are walking in heels, changing in a mini second then get on stage with a smile and not one drop of sweat!

But why oh why do you showcase a plus size brand on NON plus size models. As the only plus size blogger in the audience I thought I would be the only one with that opinion. But others also did and were talking about it too. I’m not blaming anyone in particular for this but maybe a more realistic showcase of the clothes on models you would know how they would really look on their audience they are marketing.

One other thing. The clothes were beautiful, in fact I think I may buy the jumpsuit. But the whole collection showcased was black and white. Really? a SS18 showcase and the one plus size brand is black and white. Now I know for a FACT that Evans have some amazing clothes in at the moment. Floral suits, dresses that I personally would have thought would look more appropriate for the SS18 show. I’m plus size and I’m certainly not dressing in black this summer!

Newcastle Cat and Dog Shelter

During the retailers showcase we were treat to some special guests from the cat and dog shelter. It was great to see a local business get in on the show and for all the right reasons! And I’m so glad they are staying around all week. If your an animal lover and lover of fashion you’ll be a very happy customer.

After the event I was treat to a lovely hand and arm massage from the lovely ladies at Molton Brown from House of Fraser. I also got to try some exciting new glitters from Kat on Dee make up who are based in Debenhams. It was lovely as always to see other bloggers and meet new ones too!

Overall, I had a lovely time and feel that this is the first step that at least the high street are starting to take towards plus size brands. I would love to attend the same one next year and see the difference.
